Saint Gyavira Musoke was a young Ugandan Catholic who served in the royal household of Buganda. After learning the Christian faith, he abandoned practices opposed to the Gospel and embraced Christ with courage and sincerity.

During the persecution of the Christians of Uganda, Gyavira refused to renounce his faith. He was burned alive at Namugongo on June 3, 1886, together with other young Catholics. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI on October 18, 1964.
