Saint Galgano Guidotti was an Italian knight who abandoned a life of violence and worldly ambition after receiving a profound call to conversion. Born near Siena, he withdrew to the solitary hill of Montesiepi, where he lived as a hermit in prayer and penance.

Galgano’s conversion became a lasting witness to the power of divine grace. At Montesiepi he dedicated himself to Christ and the Cross, and the hermitage associated with him later became a place of pilgrimage. He died in 1181.
