Saint María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, widely known as Mama Antula, was born in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, around 1730. As a consecrated laywoman, she embraced a life of prayer, penance, and service to the Church after the suppression of the Jesuits.
She walked across Argentina preaching repentance and organizing Spiritual Exercises for thousands of people, helping preserve Catholic faith and practice during a difficult period. In Buenos Aires she founded a house for spiritual retreats that continued to serve the faithful. Pope Francis canonized her on February 11, 2024.
