LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The Mars Curiosity rover has beamed back the image of a rock that looks like a Roman statue. Specifically, it looks like the head of a Roman statue, with eyes, a mouth and helmet.
The rock was discovered by a YouTube enthusiast, "Paranormal Crucible." She wrote, "'Interesting relic I found in the Curiosity Rover archives, this one looks like a statue's head, possibly Roman inspired or very similar in design...
"Even without any processing or enhancement this relic stands out in the raw image, and in my opinion it's definitely not a regular rock."
The image was captured by the rover on July 1, but was not seen until four days later.
UFO enthusiasts enjoy viewing the images of Martian rocks and seeing what unique shapes they can find. A whole zoo of animals and creatures, like the Sasquatch, have been seen among the Martian rocks.
Scientists attribute these findings to pareidolia, the tendency for humans to perceive common objects, especially faces, in random places.
So is the rock the head of a Roman statue? It most definitely is not, but it is interesting to have a look.
