LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Technology is making all these things possible. Watches, bracelets and jewelry can hold tiny microchip transmitters that allow for a person to be tracked wherever they go.

These can be inserted into clothing or into a persons skin, a technology that has already been used in tens of thousands of household pets.

Stewart Lipoff, an electronics engineer and an expert on radio microchip technology, explained this RFID is used in everything from pet microchips, to credit cards, smart keys and electronic locks.

Right now the ability to track a microchip by GPS isn't possible, but Lipoff says it isn't far off. Even without using GPS, by installing microchip scanners in certain areas it would make tracking chipped individuals much easier and is a much closer to becoming a reality.

These special readers will be capable of downloading information from the chip and passing it on to a central database which would sort the data and pass it on to relevant authorities.
