LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to The Washington Post, FBI Director James B. Comey has notified Congress about renewing the investigation.
Clinton and her top aides released a statement to comment on the decision.
An FBI source told CBS News the FBI would be investigating over 1,000 emails on a laptop Clinton shared with Bill Clinton.
A red flag caught the FBI's attention when investigators discovered work-related emails of Clinton aide Huma Abedin during a review of the laptop used between Abedin and former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who is currently under investigation for allegedly sexting with an underage girl.
The FBI is working to determine if any of the newly recovered emails are questionable.
The source admitted it is possible the new messages are duplicates of emails previously investigated but it is still expected to take a while to sort through.
Investigators are prepared to follow every lead provided in the emails, attachments and fragments discovered on the laptop.
In response to news of the renewed investigation, Clinton and her campaign
"It's pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election," Clinton stated at a rally.
"In fact, it's not just strange. It's unprecedented, and it's deeply troubling."
While Clinton's camp is in distress, Trump told his supporters Saturday: "As you have heard, it was just announced yesterday that the FBI is reopening their investigation in the criminal and illegal conduct of Hillary Clinton."
When his supporters started cheering, "Lock her up! Lock her up!" Trump stated: "This is the biggest political scandal since Watergate, and it's everybody's deepest hope that injustice, at last, can be properly delivered.
"...Hillary has no one to blame but herself for her mounting legal troubles. Her criminal action was willful, deliberate, intentional and purposeful."
Clinton will never accept responsibility for her actions. Whether she will lose any supporters in light of this news remains to be seen.
