LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - A Freedom of Information Act request from the Republican National Committee has revealed emails between the White House and Clinton campaign over her emails. The emails were exchanged in early 2015 and demonstrate the White House knew Clinton was using a private server for quite some time.
Clinton and the White House even coordinated to manage discussion of her email server before the press.
One email discussion included a request from the White House to see if Secretary of State John Kerry could avoid questions about Clinton's email arrangement.
In another email, a State Department reassured a Clinton lawyer that nobody told Congress her email setup was an error.
The RNC did not release the full set of emails to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story. The RNC told WSJ that the emails they withheld were irrelevant to the communications between Clinton and the White House.
The Republicans have sought to undermine Clinton's credibility and judgement, repeatedly pointing out that her use of a private server was illegal, foolish, and put national security at risk. Clinton has acknowledged what she calls a mistake, but denies any criminal wrongdoing and insists no state secrets were lost.
The emails do prove that Clinton, the State Department and the White House were all engaged in close communication as Clinton prepared for her presidential run. No laws appear to have been broken, but the communications do tread close to an ethical line.
There is an idea that Clinton and the Obama Administration have worked very closely, and perhaps unethically, in efforts to help her get elected. The White House can engage in some political action on behalf of a candidate, but the participation should be reasonably limited.
The revealed emails serve as additional evidence that the Clinton campaign lacks ethical boundaries and is determined to win her election, no matter what lines need to be crossed.
