'I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America's future.'

What is it with Democrats and emails?

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - After several thousand emails were leaked this weekend, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was asked to resign from her position.

The emails revealed the DNC's efforts to favor Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders as well as other questionable content.

Wasserman Schultz responded to demands and did, in fact, resign Sunday, where she stated: "I have been privileged to serve as the DNC Chair for five-and-a-half years helping to re-elect President Obama and Vice President Biden, strengthening our State Party Partnership in all 50 states, leading a vigorous primary election this past year while preparing for the general election and representing millions of Democrats across the country.

"...I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America's future. I look forward to serving as a surrogate for her campaign in Florida and across the country to ensure her victory."

Though she has fallen from political grace, Wasserman Schultz continued, explaining: "I couldn't be more excited that Democrats are nominating our first woman presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, a friend I have always believed in and know will be a great President....Going forward, the best way for me to accomplish those goals is to step down as Party Chair at the end of this convention.

"As Party Chair, this week I will open and close the Convention and I will address our delegates about the stakes involved in this election not only for Democrats but for all Americans."

She concluded her speech and was unabashedly all smiles and laughter on the DNC stage while talking aside to other officials.

The next morning, she was booed and jeered at during a pre-convention delegation breakfast in Philadelphia.

Screams of "Shame on you!" and "You rigged the election!" overpowered her morning address, forcing Wasserman Schultz to abandon her speech to acknowledge her resignation.

"I can see there's a little bit of interest in my being here, and I can appreciate that interest - and a little bit of interest from the press," she admitted to the screaming Bernie Sanders supporters. In an attempt to refocus, she added, "That really shows you that Florida is the most significant battleground state!"

Wasserman Schultz continued her speech but protestors continued to jeer. When she attempted to speak of a Florida nightclub shooting, the boos and jeering became so persistent she was forced to stop again and cry: "We know that the voices in this room that are standing up and being disruptive - we know that that's not the Florida we know. The Florida we know is united!"

The crowd grew louder and Wasserman Schultz nearly screamed she would be continue to represent the "constituency of Florida's 23rd congressional district."

She concluded with a final shout above the crowd: "We will lock arms and we will not stand down."
