Department of Justice drops hammer on sanctuary cities, illegal immigrants

Sanctuary cities to lose federal grants.

The Justice Department has cut off the flow of federal money to "sanctuary cities." Sanctuary cities are those that refuse to enforce federal immigration laws. They have become havens for illegal immigrants who have committed crimes.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The Department of Justice has issued a notice to sanctuary cities. The notice warns cities that refuse to enforce federal immigration law they will lose federal law enforcement grants.

Over 300 cities are so-called sanctuary cities that refuse to provide information to federal authorities on criminal illegal immigrants. Cities like Washington D.C., Chicago, New York, and San Francisco are considered sanctuary cities. Their refusal makes it impossible in some places to enforce immigration laws.

As it stands, illegal immigrants can commit crimes and be released to settle back into sanctuary cities. These cities then refuse to cooperate with immigration officials who might seek to deport the illegal immigrant. Because these cities become magnets for illegal immigrants who have committed crimes and been released, they also diminish public safety.

Now these cities will lose their eligibility for federal law enforcement grants. And if these cities are violating federal laws, civil or criminal charges could be filed.

The move is a victory for conservatives and those who seek to uphold the rule of law.

The decision to cut funding came from the Justice Department. It was supported by Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Her support came as a pleasant surprise to many Republicans.

Illegal aliens who are due to be released from prison may also now be released to Customs and Immigration, so they can be deported instead of sent to a sanctuary city.

It is important we are clear on this issue. Illegal immigrants are those people who have broken U.S. law to enter the country. They have chosen to circumvent the law and to cut in line ahead of those waiting to enter legally. These are not asylum seekers, as there is also a process for that.

Each country has the right to control its own borders. Without borders, you cannot have a country. The deportation of people who do not have the right to be here is a moral necessity. Immigrants are welcome, but we have the right to ask they respect our rule of law.
