LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Donald Trump's rhetoric may be popular among many Americans, but his words are raising eyebrows around the rest of the world. The GOP frontrunner has blasted Mexicans, the Chinese and Muslims, all to the adoring cheers of tens of thousands of fans.
Such displays are disconcerting to world leaders, as U.S. Diplomats are pointing out. According to senior U.S. officials, complaints about Trump's rhetoric have come in from Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. India, South Korea and Mexico have been specifically named. Leaders from Britain, Canada, France and Mexico have all made public comments, criticizing Trump's rhetoric.
German Economic Minister, Isgmar Gabriel, claimed Trump was a threat to peace during an interview published on Sunday. And a spokesperson for the Mexican government, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, called his plan to build a border wall "absurd," and referred to his comments as "ignorant and racist."
In the Middle East, governments are claiming that quotes from Trump are being used to recruit jihadists.
Trump still leads the Republican pack by nearly 16 points and his closest competitors, Rubio and Cruz, are cannibalizing one another's support. If Trump wins the Republican nomination, he could go on to defeat Clinton or Sanders in the general election, becoming president.
The concern is how he will deal with foreign leaders, and how the people of those countries will feel when dealing with the United States. Donald Trump has been accused of racism, and if this is perceived to be true around the globe, it could affect his ability to deal effectively with other leaders.
Many other countries have voiced displeasure with Trump, although they have not been listed specifically and their representatives have not yet agreed to go on the record.
Donald Trump is certainly controversial. Recently, the GOP has attempted to mobilize effective opposition to Trump, but it seems to be too little, too late. Trump remains well in the lead, buoyed by anger among the people that the GOP has repeatedly failed to respond to their needs.
At this time, it appears likely that Trump will go on to become the Republican nominee.
