LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Okay, so what Super Tuesday really is a day American states vote in primaries and caucuses.

It's considered "super" because several states participate on the same day. This year, expect people living in Georgia, Vermont, Virginia, Alabama, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota and Alaska to participate in caucuses and primaries on Tuesday.

1,460 delegates are available for the twelve states that are voting today, 595 of which are Republicans, leaving 865 in the Democrat Party.

Today's conclusion will give voters a better idea of whether Rubio, Cruz and Sanders can jump in the polls, effectively knocking Trump and Clinton from their pedestals.

According to NPR, Texas may vote for Ted Cruz, who was born there. If not, it would be quite an embarrassment for Cruz.

Georgia's polls indicate either Trump or Rubio can take it for the Republican party.

Tennessee has seen support for Rubio but remains uncertain for its Republican candidate, while Clinton is expected to take it for the Democratic party.

Alabama loves Trump and Virginia is the one state Rubio may overpower the businessman.

Arkansas seems to lean toward Cruz, and Clinton is expected to win it for the Democrats. In Massachusetts Trump is expected to stand alongside Sanders at the top of the polls.

In Oklahoma, Trump will go head-to-head with Rubio while Clinton and Sanders will engage in the Democrat face-off. In Minnesota, Sanders is expected to take it all.

Colorado is a toss-up for both parties and Vermont loves Sanders. For the Republican candidate, it seems Trump might win it.

The primaries for each state are set to come to a close at the following times:

  • 7 p.m. EST: Georgia, Vermont, Virginia
  • 8 p.m. EST: Alabama, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee
  • 8:30 p.m. EST: Arkansas
  • 9 p.m. EST: Texas, Colorado and Minnesota caucuses
  • Midnight EST: Alaska

Each of the presidential hopefuls will continue to hold rallies and give speeches up to the last minute.

It is entirely possible for today's results to end with candidates dropping out of the race - but whether that will come to pass will remain a question mark until each vote is tallied. If you live in any of the states participating in the primaries and caucuses, please remember that your vote does count, so get out there and make a decision for the future of your country!
