Democrats overthrow Senate's attempts to defund Planned Parenthood after scandalous hidden-camera videos

President Obama plans to veto any bill that passes.

Senate Democrats were successful in defeating recent attempts to invalidate taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business by blocking the bill and preventing a vote on it. They were successful in getting Republicans unable to secure the 60 votes needed to summon cloture and stop debate on the bill, eventually necessitating an up or down vote.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - The legislation follows four shocking videos that caught Planned Parenthood doctors and staff discussing their operations and the sale of body parts of aborted babies.

President Barack Obama stated he would veto the measure had the cloture vote been legitimated and the bill passed, and should the House pass its own bill to defund Planned Parenthood. With the Senate ultimately standing against defunding, efforts now turn to attempts to defund Planned Parenthood though the budget process.

Attention will now be focused on Congressional and state efforts to scrutinize Planned Parenthood's sale of body parts from aborted babies and further state-level efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

During the Senate debate, Republican legislators aimed to emphasize those shocking videos that exposed Planned Parenthood arranging for the sale of aborted babies.

"The barbaric practice of conducting abortions in a way that promotes harvesting fetal organs, or profiting from such practices, has no place in modern society," stated Sen. Dan Coats of Indiana. "Planned Parenthood's disgusting practices should not receive a dime of taxpayer money."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stated that Democrats should not defend Planned Parenthood's federal funds "just to protect some political group."

"Women deserve better, and our country deserves better," he stated.

Democrats contradicted that defunding Planned Parenthood would somehow be detrimental to women's health, despite the fact the measure would simply redirect federal funds to medical clinics that provide women's health care, excluding abortions. The bill's objective is not only to defund Planned Parenthood, but it also takes it the taxpayer budget that has been allocated for the abortion business and redirects it to legitimate women's health care.

PPFA is the America's largest provider of abortions. It was also reported that PPFA additionally receives more than $528 million yearly from the federal government or other levels of government.
