LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Rubio also took time during the event to outline his foreign policy, if he should become president, based on projecting America's strength abroad with greater spending on defense, free trade deals as well as "proud advocacy" of American core values.
During this speech, he also called Hillary Clinton, one of the top Democrat's top contenders, a "leader from yesterday" who would keep the U.S. just as week as it had been under Obama. He also outlined exactly why U.S. foreign policy under Obama had hurt the U.S. and the world.
Obama "entered office believing America was too hard on our adversaries, too engaged in too many places, and what if we just took a step back, did some 'nation building at home'-ceding leadership to other countries-America would be better liked and the world would be better off," Rubio said.
"[Obama] demonstrated a disregard for our moral purpose that at times flirted with disdain. He criticized America for having 'arrogance' and the audacity to 'dictate our terms' to other nations. From his reset with Russia, to his open hand to Iran, to his unreciprocated opening to Cuba, he has embraced regimes that systematically oppose every principle our nation has long championed."
Rubio, a strong supporter of Israel, has been opposed to Iran gaining a nuclear arsenal, and also indicated that he desired that the U.S. take a larger role in the fight against the Islamic State, as well as take a tougher stance against Russia, which numerous sources revealed to be behind much of the recent instability in Ukraine.
During the event, Rubio also praised John F. Kennedy's stance on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and pointed to Ronald Reagan as an example of tough American foreign policy toppling a dangerous regime.
Rubio's was tough on Clinton during the event, who he sees as "one of the leading agents of [the Obama] administration's foreign policy. A leader form yesterday whose tenure as Secretary of State was ineffective at best and dangerously negligent at worst."
With these remarks it is clear that Republicans are shifting the tone of the 2016 election away from domestic issues to foreign ones, a role where the GOP traditionally is far more attractive to the American people than Democrats.
