NAPLES, FL (Catholic Online) - Ron Paul has always professed the importance of personal liberty. So why does RickPerry.com forward to RonPaul2012.com?
The official website for Governor Rick Perry happens to be www.RickPerry.org, but earlier today I was researching a story on Rick Perry's on defense of faith, when I typed in the following "RickPerry.com" - to my surprise the website that opened was "RonPaul2012.com".
Many of my friends support Ron Paul. They love his approach to constitutional governance and his positions on defending individual liberty. Ron Paul does not believe that Government should be able to take private property from citizens. So, there is a potential issue here regarding cybersquatting on the name and likeness of Congressman Paul's political opponent. Does anyone else see the problem?
So why does RickPerry.com go directly to RonPaul2012.com? After doing some research, it appears the RickPerry.com was registered using privacy protection. So the name of the individual who actually owns the rights to "RickPerry.com" is protected. All I could find is the registrar information for FABULOUS.COM PTY LTD. - A company seemingly based out of Australia.
Now there are a couple of possibilities as to why RickPerry.com forwards to Ron Paul's candidacy website:
1. A supporter of Ron Paul is cybersquatting on RickPerry.com and subsequently has programmed the URL to redirect to RonPaul2012.com. This can be done with no support or knowledge of Ron Paul's camp. (If this is the case, the person doing it very likely doesn't realize that it could do more harm than good, especially given Congressman Paul's stance on individual liberty).
2. Ron Paul's camp is cybersquatting on RickPerry.com and is having it forwarded to their own website. (This is unlikely considering Congressman Paul's position on personal liberty and private property).
Either way the question remains, is Ron Paul's camp aware that RickPerry.com forwards to them and do they have a justification for it if so?
I contacted Rick Perry's campaign and the person I spoke with was not aware that RickPerry.com was being forwarded to Ron Paul's website. She said they would look into it and reaffirmed that the Governor's official website is actually www.RickPerry.org (not .com).
I have also left a message with Ron Paul's campaign to see if they are aware of the domain name forwarding to their own. I have yet to hear back.
MariaNews.com will be following this story as it develops.
