LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online)- According to The Washington Post, the word "Niggerhead" had been painted in large letters on a rock at the entrance to Perry's Ranch but the word was now painted over and the rock since turned over.
Cain in a "Fox News Sunday" appearance said, "that's just very insensitive."
He continued, "There isn't a more vile, negative word than the 'N word' and for him to leave it there as long as he did, before I hear that they finally painted over it, it's just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country."
While the word has been painted over, Cain emphasized that it had been there for a long time before being covered.
Perry responded by telling The Washington Post that his family leased the property starting in the 1980s. He explained that his father quickly painted the rock. He agreed with Cain that the word on the rock is, "an offensive name that has no place in the modern world."
Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain is gaining traction against Perry and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney following a debate and straw poll in Florida.
During his interview with The Washington Post, Herman Cain was asked about criticism from President Obama regarding the booing of a soldier during the Republican presidential debate on September 22. Cain told the Post that he thought the audience was protesting the repeal of the ban on gays and lesbians in the military he admitted he should have done something because of what he called the "different interpretations" the audience's booing could have had.
Cain was also asked by the Post if Republicans could nominate a progressive African American for president. Cain replied, "The mood of the country, the citizens' movement, they are rewriting the laws to this political landscape. If it were not for the citizens' tea party movement, if it were not for the power of the Internet, I wouldn't be in this race making the news that I'm making right now."
He continued, "That's the difference . the voice of the people. They're not looking at history and what the Republican Party reputation might have been. They are now looking at this guy Herman Cain is putting real solutions on the table."
