"What became clear to me is that he was presenting a world view that contradicts who I am and what I stand for...The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago."

HICKORY, N.C. (Catholic Online) - "I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened by the spectacle that we saw yesterday," said Senator Barack Obama, referring to his former Pastor's Monday Press Conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Just when most commentators thought that the furor over the remarks of Rev. Jeremiah Wright were no longer drawing that much public attention, the controversial churchman reemerged, in showman style, to fuel the fire of public uproar. Many pundits continue to opine as to his motive.
The Presidential candidate, worn down from efforts to distance himself from the controversial preachers' past incendiary sermons while, at the same time, demonstrate a certain loyalty to the pastor who had led him to a deeper faith, married he and his wife and Baptized their children, seemed utterly shocked.
In fact, he told reporters in North Carolina, where he was campaigning in anticipation of next Tuesday's primaries, that he was "outraged" by the comments.
After listening both to Wrights remarks and viewing his animated responses to posed questions, the candidate said:
"What became clear to me is that he was presenting a world view that contradicts who I am and what I stand for... And what I think particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing. Anybody who knows me and anybody who knows what I'm about, knows that I am about trying to bridge gaps and I see the commonality in all people."
"I have been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ since 1992, and have known Reverend Wright for 20 years," said the candidate "The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago."
Obama referred to his former pastors appearance as "a performance" and spoke with apparent indignation over the content of his remarks saying, "His comments were not only divisive and destructive, I believe they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate..."He has done great damage".
In a later Press appearance in Winston Salem,North Carolina, the candidate continued his strong refutation of the Methodist Pastors words, telling members of the Press that the words``offend me, they rightly offend all Americans and they should be denounced and that's what I'm doing very clearly and unequivocally today."
Is it too little too late?
The drama of Obama continues.
