LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) -- "On the morning of December 7, 1941, dive bombers dropped bombs on the battleship Arizona. One of those bombs hit on or near a powder magazine which exploded with incredible violence. The blast collapsed the ships forward turrets and tower, and killed an astounding 1,177 crew.

The doomed ship immediately began to settle towards the bottom. Incredible feats of heroism saved the lives of many more crew, but the ship became a grave for most of the sailors and Marines who never left their posts.

As a watery tomb for over a thousand men, the Arizona has become a sacred site. Survivors of her sinking have visited the site to pay respects, but the original crew, at one time made of young men, is all but gone today. According to one memorial organization, just six of her crew are still alive today.

These courageous men are now being given their first look inside the Arizona since that fateful December day.

An underwater film crew has explored the Arizona, recording the ship's interior. Their footage is now the basis of a documentary, "Pearl Harbor: Into the Arizona" which is being aired on PBS. The documentary will air tonight on PBS at 9 p.m. ET (Wednesday, 11/22). It will be broadcast again at 10 p.m. on Nov. 28. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the attack at Pearl Harbor.

The film crew found numerous artifacts while exploring the ship, but no human remains.

The crew involved one of the survivors in the filming, Donald Stratton. Stratton's reaction to the filming is featured in the documentary.

Stratton told Fox News, The phone was there on the desk and the lightbulb was in the socket. It's just kind of eerie. I never thought you could see something like that 75 years later."
