Sixty-one detainees remain in Gitmo.

Obama has shipped 15 terror detainees to the United Arab Emirates for release. It is unlikely Obama will be able to close the terrorist detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - President Obama has released 15 more terror detainees from Guantanamo Bay base in Cuba. The president has long vowed to close the base but has not found where to send all the prisoners. Congress will not allow the prisoners to be brought to the U.S. because of security concerns.

The prisoners have all been sent to the United Arab Emirates where they will be released on a form of parole. The prisoners will be housed in transitional housing and monitored.

Of the fifteen prisoners released, twelve were from Yemen where a civil war is under way. The other three were from Afghanistan.

There are now 61 other prisoners in the Guantanamo Bay facility.

Many of the detainees held at the Guantanamo Bay facility were never charged with a crime. This has led to sharp criticism of both Presidents Bush and Obama on human rights.

The release of prisoners is a dangerous thing. According to intelligence sources, between 12 and 21 percent of released detainees become terrorists once released. By that statistic, at least three of the recently released detainees can be expected to return to terrorism.

It is unclear then, how this decision enhances American safety.
