LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Wednesday evening a man dressed in a T-shirt and khaki shorts was sighted on the side of Trump Tower in New York City.

The man was connected to harnesses attached to large suction cups and continued to thwart attempts to remove him.

According to WCBS 880, the man identified himself as "Steve" and added he hails from Virginia.

No other information was gleaned.

Steve's dramatically slow climb caught the attention of people around the nation and they're all asking the same questions:

Who is he really? Why is he doing this? Did he choose Trump Tower to make a political statement? Was the tower chosen simply because it was more likely to garner media attention? Will he fall? What is his plan?

The man was seen displaying his middle finger in a rude gesture to authorities attempting to talk him from his perch then he moved further from the shattered window to ascend without interruption.

The only visible safety gear he wore was a white helmet and the black harness around his thighs, allowing him to lean back from the window for a quick rest.

Authorities attempted to remove the glass several stories above Steve in an attempt to thwart his attempt to ascend the tower but each time Steve simply suctioned over and away from the missing window.

Some claimed Steve was an "outside terrorist" while other claimed he was simply looking for a spectacular thrill.

All traffic in the area was stopped and Mike Giroux of the Yonkers Fire Department explained it was difficult to put an end to his climb.

"It's really tough because the guy definitely doesn't want to be caught and he has the ability to stay away from the PD," Giroux stated. "So now it comes to a tough situation - what are we going to do? Are you really going to take this next window, try to corner him? It's a tough call.

"It definitely gets frustrating because here you have a person who is actually putting himself in danger, let alone everyone else. The roads are shut down at rush hour."

At roughly 3:30 in the afternoon, the NYPD began to remove windows to block Steve's climb.

He stopped climbing and polished off a bottle of water before dropping it to the ground. He calmly readjusted his backpack and continued to climb while several news anchors worried about the contents of his bag. A bomb? Weapons? Or just supplies?

A window-washing scaffold was slowly lowered to him but Steve attempted to quickly sidestep the equipment.

The man attempted to evade authorities, who were positioned in the open window above him and waiting from the scaffold below.

When the NYPD attempted to offer him a harness to connect to, he waved his arms in refusal and attempted to climb out of arm's reach.

In the end, authorities pulled him from the ledge and the show was over. Check back for more details soon.
