LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Muscatine County Sheriff's Department in Iowa has been plagued by 911 calls reporting several sightings of mysterious men dressed in black trench coats along isolated stretches of road.
According to the Inquisitr, the mystery men have been seen on roadsides in the middle of the night or walking through people's yards.
The first sighting came from Port Lousia resident R.J. Strong, who witnessed a mysterious figure near Ogilvie and Favenues in Muscatine county.
He claimed he witnessed "some weirdo walking down the paved road in a black trench coat" at roughly 2 a.m. on Monday, June 13.
Though the first report was uneventful and failed to raise concern, several other reports began to pour in, leaving officials no choice but to consider possibilities beyond simple pranks.
Daily Mail reported other sightings from residents in Iowa, Illinois and other nearby states.
"It's happened to a few friends of mine out on 22 and I heard they did it in Fruitland last week I believe," Cassie Pameticky wrote on the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Skeptics like Steven Kenney Jr. believe it is an elaborate prank while others joke the men are part of the Men in Black, hard at work to conceal the existence of extraterrestrials.
Kenney wrote: "It's just idiots dressing up to get a few laughs and freak people out," which received several "likes."
Most people believe the sightings are fake or part of an elaborate hoax but the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office is taking the matter seriously.
The Muscatine Office posted a message urging witnesses to step forward with their stories.

"We have had several reports of 'men dressed in black' entering the roadway in rural Muscatine County," the post reads. "We don't have any new information about these people, but we have also seen several posts on Facebook about the same type of activity.
"It would be extremely helpful to the Sheriff's Office, if you witness this type of activity, that you call 911 immediately. Your help is greatly appreciated."
