Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Of all the people killed, about a quarter of them were the terrorists themselves, killed as the result of suicide, clashes with security forces, or operational incidents, such as accidents, which killed them prematurely. The rest were innocent victims. From pregnant women and infants, all the way to the elderly have died in these attacks. Most of the perpetrators have been Muslim men.
Each attacks killed about two to three people, although some were unsuccessful, and others killed in the hundreds.
The hotspots have been Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, and Nigeria where Islamic militants have been especially active.
The total number of deaths worldwide is 11 percent greater than it was in 2014.
Another 12,000 people were kidnapped and taken hostage in 2015.
ISIS, the Taliban and Boko Haram were the greatest perpetrators, however other Islamic terrorist organizations added to the tally.
The data also suggests some other trends in terror. Airports are no longer the targets of choice as terrorists are choosing other places to strike. Transportation targets are popular including buses, subways, and busy streets.
Terrorists primarily use bombs to kill large numbers of people, and their second-most preferred method of attack is armed assaults, which account for 23 percent of all attacks.
Iran is also the chief sponsor of terrorism around the world. They continue to support Hezbollah in Israel and Lebanon and the regime of Bashir al Assad.
This information was compiled by the University of Maryland and shared by the State Department. They are intended to inform policy decisions about how best to allocate resources for combating these threats.
