Texas was its own country once - will it be again?

Texas has been thinking about seceding from the United States for quite a while. Now, after a Wednesday meeting of the Platform Committee of the Texas Republican Party, a Texas independence resolution will be up for vote during this week's GOP convention.

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Several ideas will be presented at this week's Republican Party of Texas state convention in Dallas - including the option for the state's secession from the United States.

According to KWBU, Daniel, Miller the president of the Texas Nationalist Movement, believes an independent Texas has a plenty of support.

"It actually looks like it's going to go to a full vote before the delegates so there is definitely support," he explained.

Texas was once its own country - and remained so for nine years before joining the United States in 1845. Though few have seriously considered secession, the idea popped up again after President Barack Obama was elected.

The Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM) confirmed a two-thirds vote to call for a referendum on Texas independence.

Some of the delegates are TNM members who plan to push Texas' independence.

Miller stated: "We have said this for years. The people of Texas want an open debate and a vote on the issue of independence. None more so than Texas Republicans.

"What has been great for our case is the weak and extremely small amount of opposition at this convention to Texans having a vote on independence. It's understandable when 55% of the RPT platform is dedicated to calling out the failures of and the excessive overreach of the Federal Government."
