The awful thing Facebook is doing to your news, and to YOU

Facebook is manufacturing reality itself.

Facebook creates reality. This is the new suggestion following the admission that Facebook manages trending news to promote some topics while suppressing others.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Users of the behemoth social network, Facebook, should not rely on the network for their news and information, as it provides a dangerously skewed view of reality. The social network has experimented with becoming a news provider by pushing trending stories into users' newsfeeds. Their goal is to retain viewers and host discussion over the news, rather than let viewers leave the site to get news.

However, if Facebook is going to be a news provider, then it may have some responsibility to report the news objectively and without bias, or it should make its bias clear, however this hasn't happened.

Instead, Facebook's foray into news has been both harsh and questionable. The agency has employed low-paid workers to curate its media, and has ordered those workers to push biased news, while suppressing conservative views. In addition, it has promoted pet causes as news, while ignoring others.

According to several former Facebook staffers, they were employed as independent contractors, hosted in a New York basement facility, ostracized from company events, and tasked with labeling what news was trending. The job brings low pay and high stress to workers who must meet high production quotas. Unhealthy interpersonal rivalry is encouraged, which turns the workplace into a battlespace for some. On several occasions, curators were ordered to inject certain stories into the trending news section, even if the story was not trending at all.

One example was "Black Lives Matter."

Facebook received public pressure for not promoting "Black Lives Matter," so the edict came down to make the topic trend. Several former news curators have confirmed this story.

At the same time Facebook was pushing Black Lives Matter, it was suppressing conservative news, even if such news was trending organically. News sites such as Bloomberg and Drudge were blacklisted. Catholic Online found its entire site hijacked and held in Facebook limbo for months -not by hackers, but by Facebook itself. It remains there today.

The result of all this is Facebook is filled with liberal-leaning news and information, which makes users of the social network feel that the left-leaning perspective is true and accurate and the conservative viewpoint is either flawed, or nonexistent.

This is social engineering at its finest. It's pure, unbridled socialist propaganda. Not only does Facebook push the worldview of its choice, it suppresses anything to the contrary. Totalitarian governments work this way.

Perhaps it's because the young atheist Zuckerberg believes he is a ruling monarch? Perhaps his ego has grown to the point he feels he can construct and "curate" reality itself?

Most people do not understand what Facebook is or how it works. They label Facebook a "social network" but it's no such thing. In reality, Facebook is a marketing platform, intended to sell your eyeballs, and your personal information to third-party advertisers who pay Facebook to reach you.

Every time you like something, or state a preference, you are giving Facebook more data about yourself. Facebook then packages and sells this data to third parties. In support of these efforts, Facebook pushes content that is designed to make you buy new things, and to make you think and feel in a manner that is profitable to them. The network is designed to be addictive, with the precise mix of old and new content served to you according to algorithm, rather than serving you reality in real time.

Many Facebook users are savvy enough to understand this, but they remain on the social network because they use it to maintain connections with families, friends, and even enemies. The site rewards their narcissism, and allows them to promote their idle thoughts and ideas. It distracts people from work and other duties. But it's designed to do all this, rewarding your brain on a schedule that makes the platform addictive.

Zuckerberg has a moral obligation to users to inform them of the site's true purpose and nature, and if he wants to be in the news business, then he should either provide objective news, or make it obvious that he has a liberal editorial bias.

Zuckerberg has already wielded his power irresponsibly. The next time you see Facebook light up with a liberal bias, it might pay to keep that in mind.
