LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - UFOs are back in the news thanks to the return of the X-Files franchise. At the same time, the CIA has opted to release several reports and pictures from its archives. The document dump covers material from the 1940s through 1960s that CIA officials thought would be of interest to the public. There does not appear to be any particular agenda or motivation for the release other than to share some real X-files with the public.

The CIA has always denied having any intelligence on aliens. Indeed, there does not appear to be any credible evidence that aliens have visited Earth, or that they exist at all. Although by some calculations, life should be abundant in the universe, and include intelligent life, we have detected no credible evidence of this existence. Scientists refer to this apparent contradiction as the "Fermi Paradox."

One possible explanation is that the evidence does exist, but it has been covered up by world governments for fear of scaring people and upsetting the established social order. This is essentially a major thread in the X-Files franchise. The government knows the truth, but do you really want to know?

More down-to-earth explanations suggest that many UFO sightings were the product of secret weapons, development, and aircraft testing programs. The SR-71 is an iconic example with several accidental sightings of the supersonic aircraft making their way into UFO lore. Investigating such sightings could also provide intelligence on development programs, including those conducted in countries like the Soviet Union.

The CIA seems to be playing along with the return of the X-Files, but they're not admitting anything new. For now, the reports and images are curiosities, and it will be left to the individual to decide what to make of them.

But do you really want to know?
