All LA campuses closed due to bomb threat

All campuses in the Los Angeles Unified School District have been closed Tuesday morning after a district board member reported receiving a bomb threat.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Further details on the event have not been revealed; it is not known which school board member received the threat or when it came in.

However, it is being defined as a "credible threat" involving backpacks and packages at campuses, according to the LA Times.

All threats are to be taken seriously and students and staff were told to stay away from all campuses.

"I think it's important to take this precaution based on what has happened recently and what has happened in the past," LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines said to the LA Times.

The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating the threat and searching all more than 900 campuses.

According to officials, the threat came in electronic form and defined numerous, but unspecified, campuses.

"The threat is still being analyzed," explained Steve Zipperman, the Los Angeles Police Chief, to the LA Times. " We have chosen to close our schools today until we can be sure our campuses are safe."
