LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - As the Thanksgiving travel season and the Christmas shopping season are about to begin, ISIS has released a propaganda video showing suicide bombers preparing the components on their bombs, dressing for attack, and finally pulling the pin on a grenade.
These scenes play against B-roll showing locations in Manhattan such as Times Square. The Islamic State's trademark terror-electro-pop music plays through most of the video. A snippet with Francois Hollande saying, "It's horrible" ends the original video as the words appear, "And what's coming next will be far worse and more bitter."
The multiple scenes of New York City and Manhattan make the implication clear, New York City is being threatened.
That such an attack will materialize is hardly a question at this point. Most Americans have come to a fatalistic conclusion that the terrorists will strike on American soil, sooner or later. It is only a question of timing and location.
Authorities in New York say they are aware of the video and that "there is no current or specific threat to the City at this time, we will remain at a heightened state of vigilance."
Without question, authorities are surely working to keep the nation safe, but the initiative lies with the terrorists who continue to surprise and shock the world with their brazen brutality.
Of course, the terrorists hardly have to attack to do much terror. Many Americans now feel dead anxiety and are nervous about upcoming travel plans. Our politicians are already railing against refugee populations, and this is made worse by the undoubtable fact that some Islamic State terrorists are taking advantage of the humanitarian refugee efforts to infiltrate potential targets.
While the terrorists could strike against any target, the timing of their threat couldn't be worse. Shopping malls, tourist locales, and airports will soon be flooded with people preoccupied with the bustle of holiday preparations. Anywhere you can find a lot of people, there is a target.
This coming Friday, or possibly Black Friday could be the most likely days of danger.
For now, increased vigilance is warranted.
