The bombing killed 19 US servicemen

In order to reestablish diplomatic ties with Tehran, former U.S. President Bill Clinton hid the discovery of Iran's involvement of the Khobar Towers bombing which killed 19 U.S. servicemen in 1996. The allegations are not new, but in a recent report, heavy evidence directly pointed at Clinton's administration for conducting a large-scale cover-up.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to The Daily Mail, the new report stated that Clinton's administration found large amounts of evidence to prove Iran was behind the bombing in Saudi Arabia but chose to hide the discovery to avoid public outcry.

The former president was trying to reestablish diplomatic relations at the time, which would have been complicated if Americans wanted to avenge the servicemen massacred in the bombing.

The Washington Times cited "documents and interviews" proving the FBI gathered so  much evidence Clinton decided to send a top-secret message to Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to accuse him of the crime.

Martin Indyk, former U.S. ambassador to Israel and Middle East advisor to Clinton, wrote of the secret message on his 2013 autobiography.

"Message to President Khatami from President Clinton: The United States Government has received credible evidence that members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. (IRGC) along with members of Lebanese and Saudi Hizballah were directly involved in the planning and execution of the terrorist bombing in of the Khobar Towers military resident complex," read a declassified version of the top-secret cable.

Clinton's administration demanded Iran open begin an investigation regarding the country's involvement and to pursue the suspects, all of which Khatami refused to do. Iran's radical leaders threatened to release Clinton's message, which would have negatively affecting the foreign policies of the administration.

"If the Iranians make good on their threats to release the text of our letter, we are going to face intense pressure to take action," wrote Kenneth Pollack, Clinton aid, in a memo to then-National Security Adviser Sandy Berger.

In the 2005 autobiography of Louis Freeh, the former FBI director stated that the administration committed an obstruction of the agency's persecution of the suspects. A U.S. court in 2001 charged 14 men for the bombing and in 2006, a federal court held Iran and Hezbollah responsible as ruled in a lawsuit brought by the victims' families.
