FREE Catholic Classes
Charm City is losing its charm as the number of death related to homicide continues to increase. Baltimore has been the host to several shootings incidents. Baltimore has listed a total of 144 murders in the first half of 2015. Seventy four of these deaths were during the Gray incident; the numbers have spiked from last year's record by 50 percent. During a recent incident, three people were killed during a night shooting near the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus.
The number of deaths from homicidal killings has now increased to a total of 155 for 2015. At the same time, Police arrests have dropped from 2,677 in April and to an even lower 1,531 in May of this year.
Gray's death opened up several issues surrounding Baltimore's police department. The alleged rough ride and the several riots that occurred after his death have made many headlines.
More questions arose after Gray's confirmed "rough ride" experience. According to the coroner's office, he suffered a single "high-energy injury" on his neck and spine, but the findings, according to reports were contested.
Several alleged rumors that the Baltimore Police Department has stopped performing their duties also have presented. Aggressive citizens, brave enough to stalk police with hidden cameras, try to prove their negligence on duty.
Baltimore, a poor city surrounded by five relatively rich counties, sustained a total of $20 million in damages from the rioting experienced in the city. The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied disaster relief, despite the increasing damage the city endured. With its governor Larry Hogan and May Stephanie Rawlings-Blake pitting against each other, despite the alarming issues, Baltimore's fate remains in the dark.
