A frantic 911 call was made after an 8-year-old boy was bitten by a shark while swimming in knee-deep water at a beach in North Carolina. During the emergency call, the boy is heard screaming, as the caller tells the operator that his foot has punctured holes and appears "kind of shredded." Authorities have not issued a warning to stay out of the waters, but has told the beach goers to swim at their own risk. This is the fourth shark bite incident in shallow waters over the last two weeks in NC.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, an unidentified boy suffered injuries while swimming 20-ft away from the shore in Surf City.
Although the family friend who called 911 told the dispatcher that the child's foot was "kind of shredded" with five or six punctured wounds in the ankle, local officials said that the bite wasn't that serious. The boy had superficial wounds incurred on his lower leg, heel and ankle which were all treated by emergency personnel on the scene, according to The Daily Mail.
He was then taken to the NHRMC Emergency Department to have his wounds cleaned.
"Police and EMS felt like it wasn't a serious bite," said Larry Bergman, the town manager. Surf City Mayor Zander Guys explained that the boy did not need any stitches, according to Star News.
Beach patrols have increased and visitors have been told to swim at their own risk.
"It really comes down to a joint decision on public safety officials, including myself," said Bergman. Two girls had an arm amputated from two separate shark bite incidents, June 11 and 14.
