MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Born May 23, 1899, Talley inherited the title of World's Oldest Woman after the death of Gertrude Weaver (116), five days after the loss of Misao Okawa (117).
According to USA Today, Talley's family and friends explained that she is still aware and active on everything around her. Until seven years ago, she lived alone in her home in Michigan, the place she's been since 1935.
Her husband, Alfred Talley, left this world in 1988, leaving her with their only child Thelma Holloway, 77. Holloway lives with her mother, helping take care of Talley, while her 2-year-old granddaughter often visits.
"It's all in the good Lord's hands," she said. "There's nothing I can do about it," Talley's consistent answer on her secret for the wonderful long years, according to reports.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Talley amazingly mowed her lawn by herself until a few years ago. A longtime family friend said that her mental state is still very sharp, despite her hearing loss.
"I ain't got nothing more but to treat the other fellow like you want to be treated. You don't tell a lie on me so I won't tell a lie on you," said Talley after she was told she was the oldest woman living, as declared by the gerontology experts.
Research suggests that only one person out of every five million in the United States live for 110 years or more.
Offering her long life to the Lord, she is truly inspiring. Happy, happy birthday, Jeralean Talley!
