Marquette University in Wisconsin has officially taken down a mural of Assata Shakur, one of the FBI's most wanted. Shakur was convicted of killing a state trooper in New Jersey before fleeing to Cuba in 1973. The Catholic university's authorities were warned of the installation inside the campus through Facebook.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "I didn't do any brilliant investigative journalism, I just read the Facebook page," said Prof. John McAdams.
The mural was allegedly bragged about through the social media site by the Marquette Gender and Sexuality Resource Center. According to the reports, the mural was initiated by the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in honor of Shakur.
In the mural, there were two of her quotes, with one reading, "No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them."
According to McAdams, he believes that the top administrators of the university may not have had knowledge of the mural but authorities with the Center surely had knowledge about it. Through a statement, administrators of the Marquette University expressed their disappointment regarding the insensitive mural placed in a remote area within campus.
"This is extremely disappointing as the mural does not reflect the Guiding Values of Marquette University. It is being removed immediately. We are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the mural and will take appropriate action," explained the university.
In another report, the sorority said the mural's concept was not researched properly. The chapter expressed they are not in support of any kind of violence.
"The chapter, along with other university staff and students painted a mural that featured an image and quote by Assata Shakur to promote student thinking about their educations and history. Unfortunately, Ms. Shakur's entire history and background was not fully researched. If that process had occurred, she would not have been featured in the mural," said Alpha Kappa Alpha through WITI.
Assata Shakur's mural was reported removed Sunday.
