MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - Recently, a surveillance camera showed a footage of a man wearing a backpack approaching a truck parked in a driveway near Seattle. The truck, owned by Tom Dahl, was opened by the stranger seamlessly using an unidentified and still unknown device, initially stored inside the bag. Whatever the mystery, the device was not able to start the vehicle, leaving the sole purpose was to rob cars of its valuables without alerting owners and others.
In the surveillance video, the man is seen holding up the device to the window of Dahl's Honda Ridgeline and within a few seconds he was able to open the door like it was hacked.
His was not the first case using this unknown technique; in January, a similar event happened to Lars Carlson whose suspect was also carrying a backpack.

Although the Seattle Police Department is already aware of this new technique and on alarm, they are still trying discover what it is and how it works; all knowledge they need in order get ahead of the thieves.
Criminals are able to do this because of adaptation to new technology, said police Capt. Eric Sano in an interview with KCPQ.
However, Carlson speculated that the device might be using a technology that tricks the car into perceiving they are the legitimate keys - whether there are codes run through or a button is pushed unlocking the vehicle.
Dahl plans to share the surveillance video to his neighbors and others hoping to raise awareness and encourage people not to keep valuables unattended inside their cars. He urges automakers to ensure the security of the vehicles they are selling.
