While most of the nation is still angry over President Obama's unilateral action to allow millions of illegal immigrants to remain in the United States without consequence, California has been spurred to take immigration one step further.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A coalition of state Democrats, immigration groups and health care advocates in California are pushing to expand health care coverage to illegal immigrants in the state.
Combat corruption with moral education; send a Bible to a child, or another person in need.
Under the President Obama's Affordable Care Act (ACA) immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally are excluded from receiving federal benefits.
However, California has its own health care policy, which provides health care to low-income immigrants while also protecting them from deportation.
This will allow hundreds of thousands-maybe even millions-of low-income illegal immigrants to apply and receive Medi-Cal, the state's version of Medicaid.
But so far the California Department of Health Care Services has not received formal guidance from state officials on how it should proceed with the ACA and illegal immigration. One official admitted that it's too early to tell how the new immigration program will impact Medi-Cal.
"We are assessing what some of the potential impacts could be, but it would be premature for us to comment until we have more specific information available," said a spokesman for the Department of Health Care Services, Norman Williams.
California's Medicaid program takes care of the poor via money granted from the federal and state government.
The program covers more than 11 million Californians, or roughly a third of the state's population, and has grown by about 3 million under the ACA.
Right now the federal government is footing the bill for the expansion, and at its peak, California will only cover 10% of the new costs.
Some groups are speaking out against increasing coverage for immigrants in California.
Joe Guzzardi, a spokesman for the Santa Barbara-based Californians for Population Stabilization group, said that California is already more generous to illegal immigrants than most states. Adding health care on top of the current benefits will only attract more illegals to California.
"There are millions of Californians who don't have health care insurance or have to pay for their health care insurance out of their own pockets. So it seems unfair to have legislation that provides for people who came to the United States unlawfully to be rewarded with a health care plan," he said.
