LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Obama plans to bypass Congress to allow as many as 5 million illegals to stay in the United States or become citizens, angering Congressional Republicans, and even some Democrats.

Representative Paul Ryan (WI), who many consider to be a leading 2016 presidential candidate, quickly criticized the plan, calling it a "partisan bomb". House Speaker John Boehner (OH) also lashed out, dubbing the president "Emperor Obama" for his actions.
The White House has announced that Obama will deliver a televised speech at 8 p.m. ET on November 20.
Obama has claimed that he is going to use executive authority because he is frustrated with what he deems congressional inaction. He has claimed that Congress has refused to vote on the immigration issue, which seems to ignore the fact that early on in his second term, Congress did vote on an immigration bill, which was defeated because of bipartisan opposition because it was considered to leviathan and expensive.
With an executive order, Obama is expected to prevent 5 million people from being deported, while many fear that he will give out a flat, general amnesty.
Some say that immigration reform is a last attempt by Obama to remain relevant before Republicans cement their control in Congress next year. It is also an attempt to placate the large number of Hispanics who helped push him into office in 2008 and reelect him, on the basis that he reform immigration policy.
But while immigration reform may please Hispanics, the backlash against Democrats may seal the 2016 election for Republicans, as numerous polls have indicated that more than 50% of both parties and all ethnic groups in the U.S. favor strong border security.
"I wish he wouldn't do it," said Senator Joe Manchin,a Democrat from West Virginia. "I just wish he wouldn't do it."
