PHILADELPHIA, PA (Catholic Online) - The Philadelphia District Attorney and Municipal Court President, Judge Marsha H. Neifield, have been tossing out cases after an extensive pattern of corruption was discovered in the Narcotics Field Unit South.
Internal investigations revealed that officers routinely committed egregious acts of misconduct which included, among other things, keeping money confiscated from those they arrested.
The officers involved have been found to be so corrupt that the District Attorney is refusing to call them as witnesses, requiring instead the dismissal of cases.
So far, only suspects who have not been convicted have had their cases dropped, but attorneys are now going after cases where convictions were secured. Criminals who were arrested by indicted members of the squad and subsequently convicted may soon have their convictions overturned.
