BROOKLYN, NY (Catholic Online) - Victims living in one of the areas below can qualify for a one-time benefit if they resided in specific areas hardest hit by the storm. Applicants must apply in person, cannot already be recipients, and can qualify even if their income would normally disqualify them.
All residents, including illegal aliens, may qualify according to the website. Residents must however have been living in the area as of October 27, 2012.
Qualifying areas include:
- All of 11224 and 11235 in Coney Island
- All of 11231 in Red Hook
- The part of 11229 in Gerritsen Beach south of Allen Avenue
- All of 11691, 11692, 11693, 11694 and 11697 in the Rockaways
- All of 10306 on the southeastern shore of SI
- The part of 10305 south of Seaview Avenue
- All of 10002 on the Lower East Side
It is hoped the one-time benefit will help feed families during the holiday season when need is the greatest.
