LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Liz Landau, airline spokeswoman, said there was a "security issue" on the plane. The Bangor airport tower communications said that as the plane drew closer, it was referred to as an "emergency aircraft." Flight 787, however, did land safely at Bangor.
"TSA is aware of reports of a passenger who exhibited suspicious behavior during flight. Out of an abundance of caution the flight was diverted to [Bangor] where it was met by law enforcement," Transportation Security Administration spokesman David Castelveter said in a statement.
According to Air Force Technical Sergeant, Thomas Doscher, two F-15 jets, assigned to the 104th Fighter Wing at the Barnes Air National Guard base located in Westfield, Mass., "were scrambled under the direction of North American Aerospace Defense Command at [11:40 Eastern Daylight Time] in response to an incident aboard a US Airways flight."
No further information was available on the incident.
