History will record the heroism of the leaders of the Right to Life movement. Among its heroes, holding a special place, will be Randall Terry

During Superbowl 2012 the Randall Terry for President Campaign will run hard hitting television commercials which will expose the evil of every procured abortion. The Terry for President Campaign has purchased air time for these advertisements in 9 cities. They are working hard to raise the funds to purchase air time in twenty more cities.

P>WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - Every major human rights movement has its heroes. They are the men and women who make extraordinary sacrifices in order to call attention to the grave injustice they are exposing and to enlist support in their passionate crusade to eradicate its evil effects.

Many times these men and women are misunderstood. They usually live tumultuous lives fraught with struggle, tragedy and pain. Often, their "greatness" is not recognized until they are gone from our midst. Yet, their presence among us endures through their heroism and the vital work they undertook continues through those inspired by their sacrifice.

The most important human rights movement of our age is the struggle to restore the recognition of the Fundamental Human Right to Life of our youngest neighbors in the first home of the whole human race, children in the womb. Without the Right to Life, there are no other rights. Rights are goods of human persons not ethereal concepts.

Every procured abortion is the taking of an innocent human life. It denies a human person their fundamental human right to life. Medical science, with 3D and 4D ultrasound and the wonders of intrauterine surgeries on very young children, confirms what our consciences told us long ago; intentional abortion is the taking of innocent human life.

The sophistry of the movement against the Right to Life which has attempted to hide its evil and injustice behind words such as "choice" is being exposed. Some choices are always and everywhere wrong. Killing an innocent human person is chief among them.

There is a Natural Law written on every human heart. We all know the truth - whether we are "religious" or not - that some acts are always and everywhere wrong. At the top of the list is the killing of defenseless, innocent human persons. It is always wrong to kill our neighbor and the child in the womb is our first neighbor.

Reaching into the first sanctuary, a mother's womb, and, through surgical strikes, chemical weapons, or dismembering, taking the life of that child within is an abominable crime; whether the positive law of the United States currently recognizes it as a crime or not. We know it is. When a pregant woman is killed due to a vehicular homocide, we prosecute the offender for two murders!

One of the heroes of the contemporary human rights struggle to protect our first neighbors and bring an end to the bloodshed and injustice of "legal" abortion is Randall Terry. I have known him for decades. During that time, I had the privilege of having a small role in defending him as a lawyer.

I watched him suffer the indignities of being unjustly imprisoned. I witnessed his courage as he incurred the wrath of a secularist State which no longer values the dignity of every human life. I have seen him endure the pain and suffering which come even from people who share his Pro-Life passion.

Randall Terry has endured injury to his reputation. He knows the suffering that often accompanies men and women who offer their lives for authentic social justice and change. I admired his integrity most recently as he faced a family tragedy. However, I was not surprised. He has proven character -age has worked its inevitable work of wisdom in the man as he has cooperated with its lessons.

Like heroes of other historic human rights movement, Randall Terry has endured more than his share of suffering and loss in his personal, professional and family life. It seems to be a common profile for such human rights activists.

Yet, also true to historic form, Randall Terry never gave up the fight. Fortunately, the Lord who hears the cry of the poor, the Author and Defender of every human life created in His Image, has always been there for Randall Terry. And, fortunately, Randall has had the faith to respond to the Lord's multiple calls and invitations.

Randall Terry has often experienced the liberating gift of God's forgiveness. Over the years he has picked himself up and dusted off his clothes from the inevitable falls which occur in a life dedicated to the struggle for true justice. He knows the opportunities to begin again which God offers can never be exhausted. He understands why it is properly called Amazing Grace.

Men and women like Randall Terry who fight in the great human rights struggles of history, do not live "perfect" lives. They are often bruised. They are used to falling down. What makes them different is that they always get back up and keep fighting. For them, the past becomes a tutor not a millstone.

Randall and I have stayed in touch over many years. I rejoiced when his journey as a Christian led him into the full communion of the Catholic Church. I knew that in the home of the Catholic Church he would find the constant source of grace he needed to continue his vital work.

When he decided to run as a candidate in the Democratic Party primary for the Presidency of the United States, I was not surprised. He contacted me and I encouraged him. I knew he would do exactly what he is doing, use the platform to call attention to the cause which has fueled his untiring social justice work, the fundamental human right to life.

Now, the Randall Terry for President Campaign is about to make Pro-Life and Human Rights history. During Superbowl 2012, the most watched sporting event in the United States, the Randall Terry for President Campaign will run hard hitting television commercials which will expose the evil of every procured abortion. They are able to do this precisely because they are a presidential campaign.

The Terry for President Campaign has purchased air time for these advertisements in 9 cities. They are working hard to raise the funds to purchase air time in twenty more cities. Anyone interested in assisting the Campaign accomplish this goal by visiting the Randall Terry for President Campaign here.

Make no mistake, these ads depict something horrible. However, when the veneer of civility is torn off of the evil of intentional abortion, all that is left is the reality of the evil it truly entails.

In our National history, another great human rights movement secured basic human rights for another whole class of persons, people of color. History properly honors the heroes of that human rights movement. Their approaches to that just cause were also diverse. Some of its heroes were also controversial. In addition, there was internecine rivalry in their ranks as to what strategies should be used to succeed in their just cause.

The heroes of that movement suffered greatly - but their cause was just and it prevailed. They faced extraordinary odds, including a Supreme Court which denied fundamental human rights. Fortunately, as a result of their sacrifice and struggle, authentic social justice triumphed over social evil.

So too, history will record the heroism of the leaders of the Right to Life movement. Among its heroes, holding a special place, will be Randall Terry.
