Over the next few days this continuing saga will unfold. Stay tuned. Expect a very serious question to be raised such as, "Mr. President, you have a certificate of live birth. What about the millions of children who were denied their own birth and the certificate of live birth they deserved? What about the ones born alive and then killed?"

WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - Wednesday morning, April 27, 2011, the White House released a document which has captured the attention of many for a long time, the long form birth certificate. Dan Pfeiffer, the White House Communications Director stated upon the release: "At a time of great consequence for this country - when we should be debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once again distracted by a fake issue. The President's hope is that with this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to the American people and the future of the country." The President then followed with remarks in the Press briefing room in which he used the release to make a new campaign issue out of the matter, saying he had been "puzzled" by all of the requests and that it was time to, in his words, "Get serious...We do not have time for this kind of silliness....We've got better stuff to do. I've got better stuff to do. We've got big problems to solve." Donald Trump immediately claimed that his persistence in shining the spotlight on the failure to release the long form birth certificate had been the cause of the administration's action. In his own Press conference, held in New Hampshire where he is fueling the growing speculation of a serious bid for the Presidency in 2012 he said:
"Today, I'm very proud of myself, because I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish," Trump told reporters. "Why he didn't do it when everybody else was asking for it, I don't know. But I am really honored, frankly, to have played such a big role in hopefully, hopefully getting rid of this issue." Most of the other contenders for the presidency - as well as major Republican leaders such as Speaker of the House John Boehner - have not entered into the clamor over the release of the birth certificate. For example, on Tuesday former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, speaking at a luncheon in Iowa said, "He has a certificate of birth, which is what, if you ask for the record of birth in Hawaii that is what they give you. As you've heard me say, there's plenty to not like about what the president's doing to our country, both here at home and overseas as far as national security. I think the best thing for us to do is to focus on those things that are important to our country." Over the next few days this continuing saga will unfold. Stay tuned.
