Defunding Planned Parenthood:'Let the Abortion Providers Provide for Themselves'
FREE Catholic Classes
Finally, the political facade is being melted away and many Americans are beginning to see Planned Parenthood for what it truly is. Thankfully, many more Americans are asking, "Why should we pay for this?" As Congressman Mike Pence so perfectly stated, "Let the abortion providers provide for themselves."

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Catholic Online) - Is Planned Parenthood worried? Let's hope so. Those serious about abolishing abortion in the United States have a strong momentum building, and the day may finally be here when we can stop the flow of federal dollars to the nation's abortion giant.
At a time when our country is staring financial disaster in the face, it's not only essential moral policy to stop paying Planned Parenthood to kill our children; it's also common sense economic policy. We can actually find something productive to do with that $350 million dollars a year (pun intended).
The abortion megacorp receives 1/3 of its operating budget from the federal government. Under Title X, they are generously given our tax dollars and told the money is to be used for things like well-woman exams and tests, STD testing and treatment, safe-sex counseling, etc., but cannot be used for abortions. (By the way, is that the "safe sex" that encourages adult men to assault and traffick barely-teenaged girls? Just wondering.)
The problem with these Title X rules is that it's complete nonsense to think that money given to PP doesn't end up paying for abortions. If they use federal money to pay their electric bill or their receptionist, then taxpayers are paying for abortions. Any funds that help keep PP open for business are funds that are spent on abortion. Is anyone really falling for this shell game?
It cannot be said too many times: abortion is Planned Parenthood's pot of gold. Their objective is to do as many abortions as they possibly can because that's where the real money is. Unlike the Crisis Pregnancy Centers around the country that truly do provide pregnant women life-giving help and care for free, PP does not generously donate their "services." (They depend on the generosity of the government to "donate" to their cause.) They're in it to make a filthy profit.
PP's website lists the cost of a first trimester abortion between $350 and $950 dollars. Their Fact Sheet for 2008 says they "provided" over 324,000 abortions for that fiscal year. Just taking their lowest figure - $350 for an abortion - that adds up to more than $113 million dollars. And something tells me that they don't sell every abortion for a mere $350.
Keep in mind that PP is a tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) company as well. They are also in the convenient (for them) position of generating the need for the very "services" they provide. They promote promiscuous sex, hand out contraception they know will fail, then open wide their doors to encourage women to terminate their babies, which they can expertly accomplish. For a hefty fee, of course.
Until the blessed day comes when the laws of our country have changed to protect the child in the womb, the very least we should demand of our government is that we stop paying PP to wipe out generation after generation of innocent children. As Congressman Mike Pence so perfectly stated, "Let the abortion providers provide for themselves."
Pence is among many pro-life heroes in Congress who are actively pursuing the permanent defunding of Planned Parenthood. He's certainly gotten Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richard's attention with his Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act.
Between the Pence amendment and the Live Action videos that reveal PP's utter disregard for children's welfare and safety and their disdain for the law, Richards knows that PP's federal gravy train is under serious threat of derailment.
Finally, the political facade is being melted away and many Americans are beginning to see Planned Parenthood for what it truly is; an organization that profits from the destructive sexual activities of minors and adults - and quite possibly criminal sexual activities - and the wanton extermination of babies. And thankfully, many more Americans are asking, "Why should we pay for this?"
We shouldn't be paying for this. Let the vocal and wealthy celebrities and abortion advocates in the country donate to their pet cause and keep PP operating if they choose, but keep our tax dollars out of it. I choose not to fund PP. I choose to value and protect my neighbor in the womb. I choose life. What about it, Cecile? Aren't you supposed to be pro-choice?
Thanks to Pence, Chris Smith of NJ and other unyielding defenders of life, the current Congress is poised to finally defund Planned Parenthood permanently.
Take the time today to call your Representatives right now and tell them to vote YES on the Pence Amendment to the Continuing Resolution (the legislation that keeps our government funded and operating through the end of the year). The Pence Amendment would prohibit any funds from going to PP this year. This vote could come as early as today.
You can call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
Then keep your eye on the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act and tell your Representatives to let Planned Parenthood fend for themselves with their own money, not ours. Cecile Richards has good reason to be panicked right now. This is the hour of momentum for Life and defunding Planned Parenthood would certainly be a wonderful victory. Pray that our leaders in Congress remain determined and courageous in this fight, and vocalize your support for this legislation and for them.
It's time to abolish abortion, and defunding Planned Parenthood is an excellent and necessary first step.
