EDMONTON, Canada (Catholic Online) - Orlando resident and former Florida Gators quarterback Chris Leak won his third overall championship Sunday. His Canadian Football League (CFL) team, the Montreal Alouettes, earned their second consecutive Grey Cup. In 2007, Leak also led the Florida Gators to a National Championship.
The 98th Grey Cup was held in Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, where 63,000 fans packed the Commonwealth Stadium. Despite the fact that their quarterback is dealing with a health scare and will have surgery to remove a lesion in his throat, the Alouettes beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 21-18.
From 2003 to 2006, Chris Leak served as the Florida Gators quarterback. He compiled a 35-12 record, including leading the University of Florida to the National Championship in his senior year. To date, he is UF's all-time leading passer at 11,213 yards and was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award in 2006. In the 2007 BCS title game, Leak completed 25 of 36 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown.
