Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. Support the Catholic League in Honoring Mother Teresa and Protesting Actions of Anthony Malkin
FREE Catholic Classes
The rally is being held to protest the decision by Anthony Malkin, the owner of the storied building, to deny a tribute to Mother Teresa: The Catholic League's request to have the towers shine blue and white, the colors of her congregation, on August 26th, the 100th anniversary of her birthday, was originally denied without explanation, and was later denied on appeal by invoking a 'policy' that prohibits honoring religious individuals or institutions.

P>NEW YORK, NY (Catholic Online) - William A. "Bill" Donohue, Ph.D. is a pugilist who uses his words not his fists to defend the Catholic Church. He is the kind of man you want on your side in a real fight; and we are in one in this increasingly hostile culture. St. Paul reminded the early Christians in Ephesus: "Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens."(Eph.:12)
They also lived in a hostile culture. They were called, as are we, to transform it through the witness of both their words and their lives. St. Paul used the protections of the positive law of his own age to defend the right to proclaim the only message which liberates all men and women. So must we in what has become an imploding Western culture. St. Paul used his Roman citizenship to further his ability to continue to preach the Gospel which itself brought about the very conversion of that empire. (See, Acts 25). We who live in the US and the West must use our positive law and the protections it offers to do the same. The Catholic League helps us to do so. Bill Donohue is a Champion of the Rights of Catholics and the proper role of the Catholic Church in the public square.
This is a Catholic layman absolutely committed to the mission of defending the Catholic Church, the Holy Father, the Clergy, the faithful and the Catholic mission. He is the kind of guy you always want on your side. He understands that the Church is a mother and he does not take kindly to anyone speaking or acting against his mother. He is a very capable Chief executive, presiding over an organization and a staff which is extraordinarily effective in utilizing every avenue of the integrated media to defend the faith and the Church against all adversaries. Those adversaries include intolerant secularists, ill mannered and aggressive atheists or anti-Catholics, including the growing "fifth column" within the Church, those Catholics who reject the Magisterium of the Church and have become what I call "Anti-Catholic Catholics."
Bill also "calls it as he sees it". We followed with delight his efforts to honor one of the saints of our age, Blessed "Mother" Teresa, by having one of the great symbols of New York, the Empire State Building, glow with blue and white on the occasion of the late champion of the poor's birthday. It seemed a wonderful tribute to the woman who everyone calls Mother in an age so desperately in need of heros. The US Postal Service is honoring her with a stamp and Americans from every community have responded positively to her wonderful message and esteem her life of sacrifical service to the poor.
The Empire State Building has honored others in the past. So we were deeply saddened by the refusal of the management of that building, Anthony Malkin, to honor Mother Teresa. Worse yet was his absolutely ludicrous effort to explain such a poor decision, after the fact, and his efforts to browbeat the Catholic League in his terse response.
We call for support for the response of the Catholic League and their coming protest. They are reaching out to every group of Catholics, other Christians, other people of faith and all people of good will to protest this slight against Mother Teresa and failure to recognize the role of the Catholic Church in America. We present the latest Press Release from the Catholic League below and encourage our readers to fully support the Catholic League in the coming weeks. We ask you to contact the Catholic League to assist them and join in the mass protest and showing of solidarity on August 26, 2010 outside of the Empire State Building. We present their latest Press release below. Others can be found on their great site by going here.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CONTACTED: MOTHER TERESA CAMPAIGN CONTINUES
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on Day 31 of the protest campaign on behalf of Mother Teresa:
"Today I am writing to the Knights of Columbus chapters in the New York Tri-State area informing them of our protest demonstration on August 26 outside the Empire State Building on 34th Street and 5th Avenue.
The rally is being held to protest the decision by Anthony Malkin, the owner of the storied building, to deny a tribute to Mother Teresa: our request to have the towers shine blue and white, the colors of her congregation, on August 26th, the 100th anniversary of her birthday, was originally denied without explanation, and was later denied on appeal by invoking a "policy" that prohibits honoring religious individuals or institutions.
If this were in fact true, then (a) they would have said so from the beginning (instead they told me the application looked fine), and (b) they would not have honored Cardinal O'Connor when he died; Pope John Paul II when he died; the Salvation Army; and Rev. Martin Luther King.
Yet the same persons who chose to stiff Mother Teresa decided to honor the Chinese Communist revolution last year, even though 77 million innocent men, women and children were murdered under Mao Zedong. By contrast, the U.S. Postal Service is honoring Mother Teresa with a commemorative stamp.
Everyone is being asked to pass the word about our demonstration and to join us on August 26. They are also being asked to write to Anthony Malkin. His address is Malkin Properties, One Grand Central Place 60, E. 42nd St., NY, NY 10165.
