CHICAGO, IL (Catholic Online) - NOW (The "National Organization for [Anti-Right to Life] Women) is in an outrage over the Tim Tebow ad which is scheduled to air during the Super Bowl. On their web site they state:
"Focus on the Family has an aggressively anti-abortion, anti-LGBT, anti-woman agenda. This ad reportedly promotes the decision of one woman to go against her doctor's advice to terminate an at-risk pregnancy. While NOW would never disparage any woman's reproductive choice, we believe that all women should be free to make the decision that is right for them. We also believe that this ad could potentially put women's health and lives at risk by promoting ideology over medicine"
NOW President Terry O'Neil told the Associated Press that the planned ad is, "extraordinarily offensive and demeaning." I now ask the obvious. What is demeaning about a woman choosing life? What happened to "trusting" women to make their own choices? Perhaps Terry O'Neil should speak to one of the couples I know who were pressured to abort babies due to adverse diagnosis. Talk about demeaning and offensive!
I searched NOW's site to see if they had expressed any outrage regarding these couples who are often coerced to abort a child and told they are selfish for even thinking of bringing an imperfect child in the world. Of course, I found no such thing.
NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) is also in an uproar. They sent out an email asking women to send a letter to CBS which included these words, "Focus on the Family has an unmistakable anti-choice, anti-birth-control, anti-sex-education, anti-gay agenda. If that wasn't bad enough, its views on women are just plain insulting and dangerous.
For example, its web site urges women facing an unintended pregnancy to seek 'wise advice' because 'the hormones and extreme emotions of pregnancy make reasonable decisions more difficult'. ...We can't just sit by while CBS lets Focus on the Family place a political ad during the Super Bowl, when millions of people are watching ads."
Why is asking a woman to seek advice "insulting and dangerous"? Because NARAL would like us to believe that all women freely choose abortion. As a post abortive woman and the director of a post abortion program, Lumina/Hope and Healing After Abortion, I have met countless woman who were coerced into abortion by boyfriends, husbands and parents. You guessed it, not a word about that on their site.
"RH Reality checks" Amanda Marcotte has this to say, "Focus on the Family has dumped millions of dollars into an ad to play during the Superbowl (which CBS has agreed to air despite its own "anti-advocacy policy") that tells the story of how Tebow's anti-abortion mother Pam Tebow refused to abort a problem pregnancy, and risked her life to give birth to a boy that would go on to win the Heisman trophy."
These self proclaimed, supposedly "pro-choice" women's groups, who profess to speak for all women, are outraged at the thought of the Tebow ad during the Superbowl. I guess Pam Tebow's choice is not one which they will allow in their supposed "pro-choice" agenda - or for that matter anyone else's choice that is not in keeping with theirs.
Pam Tebow chose to give birth to her son in spite of pressure to abort from the medical community. That was her choice; a choice that brought into the world, her son Tim. To me that is something to be celebrated.
I am proud to be labeled "anti Choice" because it means anti abortion. Countless other women are also proud to bear those labels; labels that acknowledge the value of every single human life. Although they won't admit it, NARAL, NOW and RH Reality Check are the ones who are anti choice. They oppose the choice for Life. Trust women? I don't think so, their agenda is "demeaning and offensive" to women who they obviously do not think are intelligent enough to make their own decisions.
Their deafening silence when it comes to women dying from abortion, being coerced by others; their lack of outrage when it comes to violence and pregnant women who refuse to abort, their complaints about the Tebow's Super Bowl ad, all shine the light of what they truly are onto themselves. Not only are they pro abortion, they seek to silence all those who do not agree with them as evidenced by their response to this ad.
I applaud CBS for airing this ad and pray that they do not cave in to pressure. Not only are they airing a beautiful story, but they may in the end, be saving countless lives of women and babies.
