BILOXI, Mississippi (Zenit) - Benedict XVI appointed Auxiliary Bishop Roger Morin of New Orleans as the bishop of Biloxi.

The chair of the Biloxi diocese has been vacant since April 2008, when Bishop Thomas Rodi was moved to the Archdiocese of Mobile, Alabama.

Roger Morin was born in Dracut, Massachusetts in 1941. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1971.

Pope John Paul II named Father Morin a monsignor in 1985, and he became vicar general and moderator of the curia for the archdiocese in 2001. His episcopal ordination was in April 2003.

Bishop Morin's installation in the Diocese of Biloxi will be on April 27.

The Diocese of Biloxi has approximately 67,800 Catholics, served by 79 priests, 26 deacons and 63 religious.
