We ask you, urgently: don't scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

CHESAPEAKE (Catholic Online) - As a Deacon in love with the the Lord and His Church and one who regularly reports on the events which can greatly influence her vital mission in this new missionary age, I always watch and pray. The coming appointment of a new Archbishop for New York is a huge story. That is why we have covered even the "rumblings".

However, when I am looking for accuracy in this arena, there are two sources which I always depend upon. The first is Rocco Palmo's routinely accurate and always well written Web Log "Whispers in the Loggia", (http://whispersintheloggia.blogspot.com/).

The other is "Rorate Caele", (http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/) another bellwether of accuracy and a truly great source for all news pertaining to the struggle for fidelity within the Catholic Church.

When these two ever accurate sources intersect, I sit up, take notice....and write.

Today, February 13, 2009, they did just that.

Whispers reported:

"For what it's worth, only in these last hours has what experience can construe as the run-up to an announcement been felt kicking into gear... at least, the beginnings thereof.

As of this writing, credible reports indicate that Benedict XVI's intended nominee has received notice of his selection for the New York post, and has accepted the appointment.

Along similar lines, a separately circulating nugget -- traceable to a very high authority -- relates that said choice is: 1. proficient in Spanish (a seeming pre-requisite for what's now a majority-Latino local church), 2. enjoys a reputation as a "conciliator," and 3. is proven to be "good with priests" (the latter two a reflection of Concern #1 for the Big Apple nod).

Of course, that narrows the field considerably... and while one name is predominantly conjectured with these words, the wisest thing is to just hang back and keep discretion until the rest can be securely nailed-down.

Indeed, as the incumbent says, "it may come at any time" -- but smart money's said that, at its outer bound, just a fortnight or so remains.

As always, stay tuned... and in the meantime, Gothamites, try to get some sleep."

Rorate reported:

"Timotheus Dolan, Archiepiscopus Neo-Eboracensis

Several signs and sources indicate that Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of Milwaukee, has been chosen by the Pope as the new Archbishop of New York.

Paolo Rodari, religious journalist for Italian daily "Il Riformista", also mentions the matter today, adding the information that the list of option presented to the Pope included the Archbishop of Atlanta, Wilton Gregory, and that of Newark, John Myers."

Stay tuned readers and keep praying.....
