Three New Members Elected to Catholic Relief Services Board

Archbishop Broglio, Bishop Flores and Bishop Holley to Serve Three-Year Terms.

BALTIMORE, MD (C.R.S.) - Three bishops have been elected to the Board of Directors of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the official international relief and development agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Military Services, USA, Auxiliary Bishop Daniel E. Flores of Detroit and Auxiliary Bishop Martin D. Holley of Washington were elected by the full body of the USCCB at their general meeting, November 10-13, in Baltimore.

"The three new board members will bring guidance and wisdom to CRS in areas very important to our agency," said Ken Hackett, CRS president. "Their combined experience will be a wonderful opportunity for CRS to increase diversity outreach and global advocacy efforts on behalf of the world's poor."

Archbishop Broglio has headed the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA since 2007. He previously served as apostolic nuncio to the Dominican Republic and associate pastor in the Diocese of Cleveland. He holds degrees from the Gregorian University in Rome and Boston College, studied at North American College in Rome, and attended the Pontifical Eccliastical Academy, the Vatican's school for diplomats. He entered the diplomatic corps in 1983, and worked in Vatican embassies in Ivory Coast and Paraguay before being assigned as chief of staff of the Vatican Secretariat of State. Archbishop Broglio was ordained a priest in 1977.

Bishop Holley has served as an auxiliary bishop of Washington since 2004. He previously served in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Florida. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in management from Alabama State University and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Florida. Bishop Holley was ordained a priest in 1987.

Bishop Flores has been an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Detroit since October 2006. He previously served the Diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, and was named Chaplain to His Holiness by Pope John Paul II with the honorary title of Monsignor in 1995. From 1997 until 2000 he studied at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome where he received a doctorate in theology. Upon his return to the U.S., he served in the Corpus Christi Diocese and later at the seminary in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Dallas. Bishop Flores was born in Texas in 1961, and was ordained a priest in 1988.

CRS' outgoing members of the board are Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn, New York (Treasurer), Bishop George V. Murry of Youngstown, Ohio, and Bishop Curtis J. Guillory of Beaumont, Texas. CRS recognizes them for their outstanding service and their heartfelt concern for the people the agency serves overseas. Their guidance and contributions over the course of their terms were instrumental to CRS' success to reach even more people in need and raise awareness of the plight of the poor.
