We ask you, urgently: don't scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (Catholic Online) - A graduate of Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia is now a recipient of a Gold medal and a hometown hero for his performance in the 440 in the beijing Olympics.

Even his mother, Brenda Stukes, heard the good news from the Press. The race was not shown live on Thursday but will be aired as a part of a prime time special on NBC.

"Oh my God... My sister called me and told me he won, but she didn't think the person (who told her) knew what they were talking about. This is so good. We knew he could do it, but we didn't want to brag"said the ecstatic Stukes to reporters.

Portsmouth is a part of the area of Southeastern Virginia often referred to as "Hampton Roads", a nautical term, which includes Portsmouth, Norfolk, Chesapeake and neighboring Virginia Beach and Suffolk.

The last Hampton Roads resident to win a Gold Medal at the Olympics was Pernell "Sweetpea" Whitaker, who won the Gold for his boxing prowess. He is still a hometown legend. He will now have company.
