WASHINGTON, DC (ALL) - Planned Parenthood of Alabama will close its Huntsville facility July 11.

Despite record profits fueling Planned Parenthood's expansion into posh new suburban facilities designed to attract wealthier clients, the organization is shutting some of its underperforming centers.

"Planned Parenthood is a baby-killing business which insists every clinic make a profit or be closed," said Marie Hahnenberg, a researcher with American Life League.

"The closing of the Huntsville clinic," Hahnenberg continued, "has nothing to do with services to poor women. It is simply a very profitable business closing one of its underperforming operations. This particular Planned Parenthood facility has long been the object of pro-life activism."

Planned Parenthood Federation of America recently publicized its expansion into suburbia. The Wall Street Journal reported June 23, "Flush with cash, Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide are aggressively expanding their reach, seeking to woo more affluent patients with a network of suburban clinics and huge new health centers that project a decidedly upscale image."

But reports from Planned Parenthood's existing abortion mills provide a different picture. Huntsville's Channel 19 reported July 7 on the most recent Planned Parenthood closing:

"Felicia Brown-Williams with Planned Parenthood of Alabama says for years Huntsville's clinic offered affordable reproductive healthcare services for women," according to the report. "'It's regrettable that we're having to close it. We've exhausted all possible avenues before we made that decision," Williams said.

"There's just not enough public funding out there for non-profits such as ourselves who provide the services that are really needed in our communities," said Williams."
"There is one of two things going on here." Hahnenberg said.

"Either Planned Parenthood has excessive cash or it claims to be running out of government funding."

Planned Parenthood received over $336 million in government funding in 2007 alone. The organization had a profit of $114 million and total assets of $1.12 billion.

"But what's really going on?" asked Hahnenberg.

"The reality is - pro-lifers are out there on a regular basis protesting. This particular Planned Parenthood facility simply ran out of customers and then wanted our tax dollars to keep it open. Many thanks to Bound4LIFE Huntsville and the local pro-life community for helping shut down this facility."

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown.

It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death.
