LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) -- The mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, has launched an online campaign to encourage Israelites to sign a letter asking President Trump to move the Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The video criticizes the Obama administration and his apparent anti-Israel sentiment. The Mayor cites Obama's call to end settlement buildings in Israel, his soft stance on Iran, and radical Islam.
Obama also allowed the UN to pass a resolution that called the construction of Israeli settlements in disputed territory as "illegal." Many Israelis see this as a betrayal.
However, Trump holds more promise for Israel, and the nation has made several overtures to welcome President Trump who they hope will foster better relationships. Trump has made indications he will do so.
The video says, "Jerusalem is Israel's undivided capital. Join me in signing a letter supporting President Trump's decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem and his decisions supporting Israel. Let's make the U.S. and Israel relationship great again!"
The Mayor paid for the video himself, and already the petition has gained over 10,000 signatures.
Palestinian leaders have warned that moving the embassy, which would legitimize the Jewish state, could have disastrous consequences.
