LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - According to the Wall Street Journal, the Russians attacked a U.S. base in June. The base is located in Syria near the border with Jordan. It is used during the day by American and British forces to help prevent ISIS from entering Jordan. At least four British special forces personnel were present during the bombing. Twenty British special forces personnel were present on the base the day before.

The Russian plane was tracked by the U.S. on radar and when it reached the base, it dropped a cluster bomb. Following the attack, the U.S. Central Command Center in Qatar contacted the Russians to warn them not to attack the base.

Despite the warnings, the Russians returned 90 minutes later and dropped a second bomb. The Russian pilots did not respond to calls not to strike the base.

The Russians originally lied and said they were told the base belonged to ISIS. However, the layout of the base would suggest it was an Allied facility. The Russians then insisted the Jordanians had asked to them to strike the base, but no such communication occurred, the U.S. has confirmed.

Four Syrian rebels were killed during the strike.

The Pentagon and CIA asked Obama to confront Russia over the strikes, but instead Obama bowed to Russian pressure.

The Russians appear to have made the strike in a bid to force the U.S. into making concessions in negotiations. Both Russia and the U.S. have gone into talks to sort out which targets and which areas are acceptable for both sides to strike.

Both the U.S. and Russia want to protect proxy forces in the region while diminishing the threat posed by ISIS and the Al Nursa Front.

While the U.S. has asked Russia to remain clear of the Jordanian border, the Russians have won concessions. The U.S. has agreed to bomb Al Nursa, thus helping Russia. Russia has agreed to stop bombing American-backed rebels for the time. The U.S. and Russia are still negotiating when and where the Russians will need U.S. approval for strikes.

If the Islamic State is destroyed, the Assad Regime and the American-backed rebels will remain. That is when the conflict will become truly dangerous as the two superpowers vie for control of a distant patch of desert.
